The Minnesota Comic Book Association presents: MNCBA SpringCon 2025 7 June at the MN State Fairgrounds Education Building

Alex J. Irizarri

Alex J. Irizarri was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and now lives in rural Minnesota. He is a traditional and digital artist specializing in portraits, illustration, character design, concept art, and comics.

While attending the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Ponce (Ponce Fine Arts School), Alex's work was selected to represent Puerto Rico in the 1994 An Artistic Discovery Art contest. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Minnesota Morris, where he was fortunate enough to publish three of his early comic strips ("Donut Freshman," "Star Worse," and "Monkey!") in the UMM Register, the school’s newspaper. He also has a bachelor’s degree in Video Game Art from the Art Institute of Phoenix.

Alex's line work is strong and deliberate. With work and subject matter influenced by an eclectic mix of 80’s and 90’s pop culture, his characters are stylized, cartoony, and playful.
