Volunteer Information
The Minnesota Comic Book Association (MNCBA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization staffed and run entirely by volunteers. We are always excited to have friendly and enthusiastic volunteers join our team! Whether your passion is for comic books, the community, or being a part of something bigger, the Minnesota Comic Book Association (MNCBA) may be the place for you!

Event volunteers are provided free admission, lunch, and access to behind-the-scenes areas where they might encounter some of their favourite comic creators! Volunteering with us is also a great opportunity to learn more about the comic book industry, as well as make new friends and network. Many of our volunteers are directly connected to the comic book industry and/or creators themselves.
Most of all — you can feel good about helping others while having fun!
What kinds of volunteer opportunities are available?
Can I volunteer even if I'm not local?
There are a variety of areas in which your help can make a difference, even if you are not a resident of Minnesota or the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area!
Some examples include:
Becoming a member, participating in administration and planning meetings.
Assisting with advertising materials, flyer and poster distribution, word-of-mouth.
Making phone calls, soliciting donations, writing thank you cards for fundraising.
Collecting, scanning, and organizing relevant memorabilia and documents.
Assisting with volunteer activities, scheduling, and recruitment.
Participating in our community activities at local schools and libraries.
Be "on call" as an artist, writer, or other creative to donate your time and skills when needed. Our Creative Director will share needs for branding, marketing, and promotional materials with the "on call" team as those needs arise. You are free to accept or decline any opportunity. Please note that we explicitly prohibt works created using generative AI in all areas of our organization.
And of course: hands-on volunteering for setup and the day of events!
Are there any requirements?
We welcome people from all backgrounds and abilities. We strongly believe that each of us brings something unique to the table — the volunteers are the MNCBA. There are no minimum time requirements or membership fees for general volunteers. You must agree to abide by our policies.
While we are a family-friendly organization, we do ask that all volunteers applying on their own be a minimum of 15 years of age. Anyone under 15 years of age who wishes to volunteer must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. The parent or guardian must be the person applying to volunteer, and must disclose that a child will be accompanying them when the application is submitted.
Sounds awesome; I'm interested! How do I sign up?
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to download the PDF application and fill it out completely. Be sure to indicate your areas of interest, and any special skills you have to offer, so that the opportunities we share with you are tailored to your preferences. For setup and event work, do not forget your availability!

You can expect a response to your application within 1-5 days, except the week immediately preceding and following an event. If you would like to volunteer for a specific event, please apply at least one month prior to the event to give sufficient time for processing, onboarding, and attending our volunteer training meeting.
After your application is processed, you will receive an email invite to POINT.
You will then need to accept the email invite, create your POINT account, and complete your online profile. Using the POINT website or mobile app (available for both Apple and Android users) you will be able to view meetings and events, sign up for shifts, and receive reminders about upcoming opportunities to volunteer.
You can also find and follow the MNCBA at HandsOn Twin Cities.
That's it! We look forward to hearing from you!
